Henry's 6 month check-up

Thursday was Henry's 6 month check-up (a couple of weeks late- he turned 6 months on the 22nd), and  I was so excited to see what kind of progress he's made since last time.  Here are his stats:

Weight: 16 pounds, 8 ounces
Height: 27.5 inches

He's in the 50th percentile for both height and weight, although people always comment on how big he looks. I think that may be because he's right in the middle for both so he just overall looks pretty proportionately solid. Either way he's thriving and growing, and doing so well.

We are so proud of our little guy, and today was actually a couple different firsts: his first swim class and his first "food" aka brown rice cereal!  And yes Mom, I'll be posting a video of Henry eating the cereal tomorrow. ;)

As for now, I'm off to go curl up on the couch with Hank, and a huge glass of ice water.  We're still obsessed with Sons of Anarchy and are on Season Two. And in other television related news, just this week I started watching Glee!  I've always admired Emma's outfits from photos, but I just assumed I wouldn't like the show since I'm not much of a musical fan. Silly me, because I LOVE it. It's been my nap-time go-to this past week.

Alright, Hank's giving me the "okay wrap it up look," so I'm signing off for the night- have a great Sunday tomorrow!

Friday links to love!

view from our lounging spot

{photo I took in Central Park two summers ago while visiting Emily. I miss it, and her!}

Hi all and happy Friday! I am so excited about this weekend because we don't have too much going on.  We are kind of a go-go-go kind of family, so when we don't make plans and allow our weekends to happen pretty organically it feels like such a treat!  The only definite things we have planned are Henry's first swim class tomorrow morning, and hang outs with my wonderful sister in law and Hank's Grandma on Sunday.  Oh, and lots of Sons of Anarchy.

With all of the birthday and anniversary excitement I missed sharing links last week, so this week is a little mix of this week and last. Enjoy!

This week Jamie featured me in her "Big Dream" series! Check it out.

And Danielle featured me in her Style Files!

I LOVE THIS HAIRSTYLE. And I can't wait to try it. There's also a plethora of other braidy, twisty dos on that site, so have fun clicking around!

My friend Kristin is living and volunteering in India, and posts like these really bring a lot of perspective into my life.

Happy birthday to one of my favorite bloggers, who just happens to have adopted a hedgehog (named Petunia Pearl, of course).

This lovely blog has a lovely new home, and look too!

Super sandwich combinations, approved by Alex. Definitely a must-click if you're a sandwich fan like me!

I love this super positive (and free) download-able print.

Ever have a poisonous pal? Ever wondered how to get rid of them?

I've fallen in love with Carynn's silverware DIY! How great do they look?

Vegan banana bread.

This is my inspiration for future outdoor dining. So fabulous!

Having a little bouquet making party is the most adorable wedding idea.

2011's six coolest nail polish trends. I personally love the nude colors.

Summer ain't summer without lots of popsicles. How about lemonade stand popsicles?

A super inspiring and healthy shopping list, from one of my very favorite blogs.

Land's End, I had NO idea you could be so cute.

And speaking of cute, Mandi's Ascot Bow tutorial is all sorts of adorable.

Do you think if I ask nicely Don and Rachel will take me on vacation with them next time?

I really love seeing our town through other people's eyes, and Ashley's trip to Prescott looked like so much fun. I really love her blog.

Adie is blogging again!

And finally, read this article. Then tell me what you think!

Have a great weekend!

oh, and p.s. today you can find me over on Moorea's blog and Ivelisse's blog too!

I love this!

Paper craft by Cameron of Cameron + Whitney!

The very talented Cameron of Cameron + Whitney created the most amazing 3-dimensional custom paper portrait of me, and when he sent me these photos, I just fell in love with all of the adorable detail!  I can't wait to get one of Hank and Henry, and have our little family captured in such a neat way.  Cameron's creations would be the perfect wedding gift, anniversary or birthday gift, or really just the perfect addition to anyone's art collection.  I know that I'll treasure mine forever.  And even cooler, Cameron can make a print of your art.  I can totally envision these being used in birthday or wedding invites.

Check out his Etsy shop here! And stay tuned...because a little birdie told me Cameron may be doing a giveaway in the next week or so... ;)

Giveaway: Boon Flair Highchair: CLOSED

First of all, if you are a mom, a mom-to-be, a friend of a mom or someday hope to be a mom, this is a giveaway for YOU.  Boon Inc. is one of my favorite companies, and I was beyond ecstatic when they offered to send my little family one of their Flair highchairs to review and wanted to give one away to my readers, too!

I'll be going into a lot more detail when I share my review next week, but basically, this chair is amazing. It has a pneumatic lift, no crevices for crumbs to fall into, easy-clean, removable dishwasher safe trays, BPA-free, so cute and comfy, adapts to a toddler seat, the list goes on and on. I never imagined that I could feel so strongly about a high chair but guys? I do. I really, really do! haha. Hank and I are kind of obsessed and are thinking about petitioning Boon to make an adult sized version. Not even kidding. Or am I?

Either way, YOU have a chance to win one of these bad boys for yourself, your future mama self, a friend, a pregnant family member, whatever.  If I wasn't a Mom I'd absolutely still enter and just store it away in the garage until the time came to pull it out and fall in love. Or you could wow at your next baby shower with the best gift ever.

Here's all you have to do to enter and win a Flair chair of your very own (retail value $279.99):

1. Simply follow Sometimes Sweet via the Google Friend Connect "follow" button up there on the left hand sidebar. If you're already a follower, awesome!

2. Leave a comment letting me know you are indeed a follower, along with your name and email.  That's it!

*winner must have a US shipping address!

To gain a second, third, and fourth entry, tweet about this giveaway using the tweet below, like Sometimes Sweet on Facebook, and/or blog about this giveaway (feel free to grab the image above).  Then leave up to THREE additional, separate comments letting me know you did so!

Here's the tweet to use:

Win a Boon Flair Highchair via Sometimes Sweet and @danihampton! http://tinyurl.com/3ntsgte

So you have up to FOUR ways to win!

I'll choose a winner at random on Friday, June 10th!  Boon will then send that lucky reader a Flair highchair in the color of their choice (check out the colors here- we chose the coconut seat with the blue raspberry pad).  Good luck!

And while you're waiting to find out if you're a winner, be sure to check out Boon via their social media outlets:

Memorial Day Weekend

This past weekend was nothing short of wonderful. I'm a big fan of birthdays, and I've never been to type to get bummed out at the start of another year. I actually really enjoy getting older, weird, I know. I don't know if I'll always feel that way, but for now I just really feel like life only gets better with every year that goes by. I always wonder what great things the next year will hold. So, as I turned 29 this weekend I was more than happy to usher in the last year of my twenties.

Hank, Henry, Madeline and I spent the weekend down in Mesa at my parents', and had the best time. Friday evening my best friends surprised me with a little dinner party and I drifted off to sleep that night with a full belly and a happy heart. Saturday morning my Mom and I had a great workout, then came home and we all went out to Chandler Fashion Center to shop. I ended up meeting the most adorable reader (hi Sarah!) and she totally made my day. While there Hank also got part one of his birthday present from me, an iPad!  He was so happy and surprised, and it was great to walk into the Apple store and let him know he could go ahead and pick one out. For months I'd been discouraging him from buying one, so he really had no idea. He was beyond happy and jumped around like a little kid. So awesome. Afterward we all went to Green for lunch. The rest of the day was spent relaxing until we headed out to North Scottsdale for Nate's 30th birthday bash at Greasewood Flats. We listened to country music, played horseshoes, and had such a great, low-key night.

Sunday was my actual birthday and it was kind of a dream day for me. To summarize without going into too much detail, it included sleeping in, working out, eating ice cream cake, a trip to Target, swimming and taking lots of photos at the park! My sister also gave us an amazing gift...tickets to see Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj with her. Believe it or not Hank really and truly loves pop music and especially Britney. Yup. So feel free to make fun of him when you see him!

I just feel so thankful for the past few days.  I have a feeling this year is going to be amazing, and I'm excited to see what it has in store for me. This past year has been filled with a lot of personal growth...and is it weird to say that I'm proud of myself? 'Cause I am. I hope I'm just as proud of my 29-year old self at the end of this year.
