Guest Post: Adie

Hi, I'm Adie and I totally hijacked Danielle's blog!! Bwahahahaha! Now you are all held captive as I share my life with you! Don't even think of clicking the back button...you're stuck here, and you’re going to like it! Hehe!

Alright, now on the the meat and potatoes :

If you are one of my real life pals or read my blog, you're probably pretty familiar (perhaps tooooo familiar) with the craziest thing I've ever done. A couple of weekends ago, I threw my hat into the ring and went to a casting call for the new Lifetime show, Project Accessory. That's right. I tried to be on TV. Adie. Me. I auditioned for television. The show is a Project Runway spinoff (same producers and all that stuff) for accessory designers like me who want to compete to win a big ol' prize to kick start their line. I was reaaaaalllyy nervous, but I just dusted off my courage and did it. (You can read more about that stuff here if you're interested)

After I came back home to good old Prescott, I formulated a list of things I learned about myself (and TV) in the process so here that is:
ONE: Their world is television. Mine is design (dare I call it that). I'll be fine in mine, whether or not I end up in theirs. Same can be said for any other goal/job/aspiration. Just tell yourself as you go in for the interview, or what have you, "Their world is ____, and mine is ____. I'll be fine in mine whether or not I end up in theirs." Because, no matter what, being you and loving you because you're amazing is the most important thing of all! It'll sustain you in times of feast or famine...love yourself first!

TWO: Nothing is too big for little old Adie. (Insert your name here: Nothing is too big for little old ____)

THREE: I should really practice putting on deoderant. Especially when I'm going to spend a full day nervous sweating. Yep, not smelling like a mix between hippie/dog/hamburger/etc etc would have been helpful.

FOUR: Always bring a jacket to cover up your raunchy pits, Adie (see point #3 above).

FIVE: Don't over-edit. Bring it all, let them see it all. If it's part of your "story" than it is relevant.

SIX: When driving, even though you're excited to go try out for TV in Los Angeles and all, don't follow Highway Patrol cars too close while singing to Ellie Goulding to yourself. That'll get you pulled over. But you'll get to listen to said Highway Patrol Officer tell you that "Being on TV is over-rated", so that's cool.

SEVEN: Always get drinks in the bar downstairs after you've done the craziest thing you've ever done. Always. You never know when there is a V.I.P. party going on that you can sneak into by touting false fame.

EIGHT: When there is a red carpet rolled out, always walk on it. Just tell the photographer (as he puts his camera down) "We're going to be famous" (thank you, Molly. You rule). Seriously, that red carpet is really soft and squishy, your feet will thank you. Hahaha!

NINE: Aim for the moon, and settle for a piece of cheese. No, really. The Moon probably doesn't even taste good, guys! When you dream big, the smallest of achievements feel HUGE because, let's face it, they are huge! Sometimes, all we need is a little shift in perspective in order to see the beauty all around us.

TEN: Breathe in and out, and trust yourself. Nuff said.

I hope you all enjoyed reading about the craziest thing I’ve ever done, and I’d love to hear about yours! Feel free to share below…that would make me really happy!
Xoxo,
Adie

Girls' Night

Girls' Night

I love my girlfriends so much. I really couldn't imagine life without them, and the busier everyone gets, the more special it is when we can plan a night out together. I'm lucky enough to live in the same place as one of my dearest gal pals Adie, and twice a year another one of my nearest and dearest comes home to visit too. I always soak up the time that Amber's here, and it wouldn't be a visit without at least one good girls' night out. Last night was that for us, and our friend Erin came up from the valley for the evening too, to celebrate Amber's last weekend night in town before she heads back to Austin, Texas, where she goes to college.

We started the night out at my house (fresh watermelon margaritas a la Adie and beyond-delicious Bill's pizza) and played the Michael Jackson game on Wii (so, so fun), then headed downtown for some dancing. I rarely drink (literally a couple times a year) so when I do decide to indulge and have a drink or two it's always really fun...and really cheap! ha. One drink and I'm done. We spent the evening dancing to ridiculously awesome/terrible music at various bars, laughing so much, and as the night progressed, we just got sillier and sillier as expected. It was just what I needed, and I woke up with Henry this morning around 6:30 feeling so renewed and happy. Yes, renewed and happy after four hours of sleep- that's how much fun I had.

Now Hank and I are in bed on our computers, Henry's taking his morning nap, and we're waiting for everyone to wake up so we can go to brunch. Today's going to be a busy day- I'm looking forward to a hard workout this afternoon and then we're having my in-laws over for dinner. It's homemade pizza night!

I hope all of you had a wonderful Saturday night. Here are some photos from mine -

Odds & Ends

Hellllooo! I have a bunch of random things to share so I thought I would share a few photos and a some odds and ends as well.

First of all, I've been having such a great time the past couple of days. Last night was extra-great because Hank took over on Daddy duty once Henry went to sleep and I got to enjoy a night out with friends. Amber and I started the evening off at The Raven up on the outdoor patio, then Adie came out and met us and we continued our night downtown. It was a great time (minus that Lone Star beer I tried in honor of Amber's visit from Texas. Yuck!).

Then today Amber, Henry and I headed down to Phoenix for the day so she could get more work done on her thigh piece. The wonderful fellow who tattoos us is a good friend of mine, so it was awesome to spend the day with him and his daughter, laughing and being ridiculous. All in all, awesome. And tomorrow night I'm having a girl's sleepover at my house. Can't wait for yummy food, dancing via Amber's new Michael Jackson game for the Wii, and going out for awhile too. Sleeping bags in the living room? Yes, please! Maybe we'll even play truth or dare. Obviously we're getting crazy.

Here are a couple blog-related things as well:

1) I've been getting tons of questions about the jalapeƱo mustard I talked about in this post!  Believe it or not, I got it at Walmart! Yes! And although I really don't like Walmart very much, I do like that they carry this mustard, so if you have been looking for it, check there. It's in the condiments aisle, with all of the regular (see also: less delicious) mustards.

2) Yes, Journal Day is continuing. I'm trying to get away from weekly features (I don't like feeling obligated to blog about something specific when I'm not feeling it- and journaling has to really be "felt," in my opinion), but I will be doing it at least 2x a month. The next one will be next week!

3) Recently I've been getting lots of questions about my camera. Lately I've been using my Nikon D60 more than ever, along with my brand new 35mm lens (birthday present from Hank).  I love it, and I've been having fun experimenting and trying out new things.

4) Yes, it's true. "Slice of" posts are coming to an end. I have about 5 or 6 more to share and that's it. It's been fun but to be honest I'm excited to wrap it up. The last few I have to share are awesome though, so yay for going out on a positive note! So to answer a very common question- no, I'm not taking anymore submissions.

5) I wanted to thank each of you for all of your support regarding Hello Giggles! I've been having so much fun being a part of their team and writing for them, and it's so neat to see your comments over there as well. I just wanted all of you to know how much I appreciate it, and you!

Have a great weekend! xoxo

a June afternoon

Spending time outside yesterday renewed my spirits and pulled me out from underneath a little storm cloud that was threatening to get comfortable right above my head. Thank goodness for great friends, our quaint little town, and lots and lots of laughter.

Adie and I (and Henry too) spent the day working on a little project, and we walked and drove and hopped and skipped all over town. It was a great day, and while out and about we decided to capture a bit of it on film.  So, here's a little video from our afternoon!  The song is "Oh! September" by Mirah. Enjoy.

a spring day

Yesterday was one of the most beautiful days in Prescott we've had so far this spring.  If only I could have somehow bottled it up and saved it for later! Truly lovely, and I'm so happy Adie and I took full advantage of the sunshine. We started the morning at Wild Iris, one of my favorite coffee shops in town. Adie got a jalapeno bagel and I got oatmeal.  Let me make a quick note about Wild Iris' oatmeal- it is so, so delicious. It's rich and hearty on its own, with just a touch of salt to bring out the flavor of the fruit. Oh, it's to die for. So we enjoyed our brunch, Henry finished his morning nap, and then we walked over to the square to meet my friend Jennifer and her son Sawyer.  Sawyer was born about a month after Henry and it was so cute to see the babies together. Jennifer is just the sweetest thing, and we all sat and chatted for awhile, then Adie and I headed over to the candy shop to indulge in some sweet treats. And indulge we did!  I got a small piece of white cherry chocolate fudge and a bag of chocolate covered pretzels. Yum. And it tastes even more delicious knowing that they make all the candy right there!

Days like yesterday make me so grateful to live in our beautiful town. It's a great feeling to love where you call home, and I'm very thankful to be surrounded by such beauty all the time! If you're an Arizona resident or just passing through, I'm currently working on a special Prescott post, just in time for summer day trips. I'm hoping to post it in the next two weeks.

Here are some photos from the day:
